AMPHICAPE

Amphicape is an antimicrobial rain poncho for rain photography, developed for a client's brand with the collaboration of MA Innovation management in UAL CSM.

Like the skin of certain frogs, this garment assists wildlife photographers in moving through different environments without carrying potential pathogens that could be picked up in various habitats.

It's specifically crafted for macro photography and provides protection from rain for both the photographer and their valuable equipment.

The front cape ensures the camera stays dry and shielded during movement and while capturing photos.

The hood features a spacious brim for effective coverage of the face and neck.

The cape allows unrestricted arm movement, ensuring safe and fluid mobility.

Amphicape was created to blend the finest aspects of two different eras while emulating the functionality of frog skin.

Whether you're a professional photographer, an enthusiast, or a novice, this rain cape guarantees the safety of the wearer and the well-being of the wildlife encountered.

Amphicape aims to offer the recognition that wildlife photographers rightfully deserve.

Much like the legendary forest creatures from European folklore, these photographers act as protectors of the forest, safeguarding it from harmful human activities and essentially serving as the Guardians of the Forest.

FLONE

Flone is a leisure tool for people to nurture plants while enjoying their visual communication mediums.

Born under a speculative investigation, Flone is part of a category of products that recreate a symbiotic relationship with plants by just looking at them.

Inspired by UVIVF photography, this object provide the same feeling of emotional connection that a bird watcher has with wildlife.

To develop mutualistic experiences, the relationship that an anthropocentric society has towards the environment becomes an obstacle.

To design for a plant-centric society, being inspired by indigenous cultures becomes pivotal.

Flone is a tool for communities of enthusiasts or curious, drawn to flower-watching events like the Japanese Hanami or he RHS Chelsea flower show (image on the right), both happening in this decade.

Indigenous societies are guided by spiritualism, and the components of Flone are therefore made by items whose spiritual meaning are found in studies of pre-anthropocentric cultures of the world.

Flone is a low-tech electronic product whose hardware is made of two elements: a Macro lens and a UV flashlight.

When disposed and dismantled, the hardware can be easily repurposed for the manufacturing of those two distinct products.

Like its feathers, Flone's body comes from natural sources.

Plants-based plastics would be a norm in a plant-centric society, making the object a highly recyclable product

Just surround the flower with Flone's feathers, turn on the UV lights and look through the viewfinder.

Enthusiasts can watch the fluorescence of many diverse flowers while plants exploit the UV light's photons to perform photosynthesis and reproduce with genetical advantages.

PUNGI

This product was designed as part of a 2nd year university project looking into the food system of 2050. It helped me focus my practice on strategies that benefit businesses, consumers and the environment, holistically.

From my sub-brief, I developed a product/service/system that helps farmers of the future reduce time and costs for crops management.

This product is based on Permaculture practices, which are regenerative systems involving a large number of diverse plants.

Part of the research database investigating the future of the food system, showing the importance of big data in the agriculture industry.

Further data suggested the political and environmental changes that future communities will witness, indicating a shift towards Permacultures.

I’ve designed a forestry management biosensor based on AI and IoT technologies combined with fungal organisms.

Pungi would connect to the mycelium that connects with plants, eventually translating their “language” through AI, giving us the opportunity to know what is the problem and where it’s happening.

Being in 2050, the electronic circuit will be designed using environmental-friendly materials, source of nutrient for plants.

The app will notify the farmer in case of distress of the plant and provide a gps position.

Using AI, the sensors unit will intercept and record the exchange of nutrient’s flow between the plant and fungi through mycorrhizae.

It will then be translated into binary language to then being translated again in the farmer’s language and shown in the app.

By growing outside the Pungi, the fungal organism connects with he plant life as it would in the wild, recreating the “Wood Wide Web” our forests had established for millennia.

At the same time, the spread of mycelium provide benefits to the substrate, contributing to the regeneration of the environment, such as:

-Reduced erosion

-Improved water retention

-Increased nutrient absorption

-Protection from pests and diseases

-Improved soil health

Pungi is a concept based on 2050 technologies, a device that would help businesses not only to improve their sustainability strategies, but to become regenerative thanks to biological organisms.

BOTANICAL RECHARGE

As part of the design development team, guided by Trudy Ruane and commissioned by the Botanical Boys, Botanical Recharge's terrariums installations have been showcased during the RHS Chelsea flower show 2023.

The idea was to educate the public about the history of terrariums and the positive impact that bringing plants closer to us have on mental health.

Requiring minimal maintenance, terrariums allow us to enjoy our time whilst making sure our beloved plants stay healthy ad well nurtured.

Short misting nozzle

Industrial UFO lamp

The installation was made functional by adding two elements: light and water.

We required this functionality because we were showcasing fern plants that thrive in high humidity conditions. Additionally, we aimed to capture attention by incorporating an industrial-grade lamp positioned prominently at the top.

With the help of the misting system, we successfully replicated rainbows within our open terrariums.

This functional installation has enabled us to connect with our audience, learn more about them, and promote the BotanicalBoys brand in a novel and effective manner.
